HBF Fitness Week 3 - Part 2

Saturday morning class, cloudy and windy with rain on the way. Great start to the weekend!

Jade put us through our paces again. 2 lap warm up agin, then back into the pyramid sets again, but this time, with a 50m sprint between each step.

We thought Tuesday was tough but today took it a step further, but it felt good once it was done.

Went to do some grocery shopping - got a leg of pork - it's been awhile since I did a roast pork, asian style. It's all prepped now, another hour and into the oven it goes. Hope it turns out well with nice crackling!

Spin Class! and my new camera

Spin class night - 55 minutes of high intensity interval spinning on a stationery bike - how much more fun can it get? :-)

But it was a good workout, as always, and a fairly large group again, over 20 people in a room of 30 bikes. Our trainer Natalie is great at motivating everyone on a Thursday night and had a good range of music to spin to. "Rode" 24 kms with several "climbs" in the 50+ minutes so it was a good, hard workout.

On another note, time to start prepping my "new" camera - a Nikon D5300 with my old Tamron 18-200mm to replace my old Nikon D3100. New, as in, got it about two months ago even though it's an older model, but I have not had a chance to even give it a test run yet. And our trip to Japan is just over a week away! Now I have to decide if I want to being a second lens, a smaller, Nikkor 35mm f1.8 prime lens. I guess it could be useful having a faster lens for some places a flash would not be welcome.

I don't really need the most up to date, state of the art camera. Just something to upgrade my newbie D3100 that's about 5 years old and showing it's age after 10,000+ shots. The D5300 has Wifi and GPS on top of a better sensor and more autofocus points, so it's a little bit of an upgrade.

The Wifi feature should be really handy, not just to quickly share photos, but also for remote shots when used together with Nikon's Wireless Mobile Utility app for Android and iOS.

Will it help me produce better shots? Time will tell ;-p

Health check!

Right, so got my blood test results back last night.

Good news is, cholesterol is good, down again to 4.6
Blood sugar, still at 6.0 so still have work to do on it.

Interesting fact, don't do a hard workout, or any workout really, before getting your blood taken for a test. Apparently it can affect your test results! And definitely no protein shakes for a week before.

Doctor reckons it has affected my protein in urine count, and several other counts as well. So it's back again in 6 weeks for a re-test. Apparently, a "fasting" blood test includes no strenuous workouts before either, not that that is ever mentioned in the pre-test warnings. Doc reckons it never really comes up but is worth mentioning to junior doctors who may not have experienced it before. Notch one up for being a medical test case :-)

HBF Fitness Week 3

Right, so it's week 3, a fairly big group this evening, and Jade is starting to up the workouts.

Warm up - 2 laps of the oval, then straight to the sets of warm up exercises.

Then comes the fun part, pyramid sets of:
10x each of Burpees, Push-ups, sitting Vs, Mountain climbers and Jumping squats, then a 30 metre sprint.

Then 9x, sprint, 8x, sprint. You get the picture. Pretty intense, but Jade puts together a good workout! And that's half the session, Part 1 done.

A 45 minute session and everyone's pretty much done for the evening!

Japan - the new holiday destination du jour?

So, how many people do you know have been recently, are going to, or even, are in, Japan, at the moment?

Does it feel like you have to "get there now, before the place is over run with visitors"?

Anyway, for me, this trip to Japan is a kickstarter of my own. It's going to kickstart all sorts of things for me, like starting a diary (online, no less), starting a blog (this one), taking more photographs, observing people, etc etc.. well something to do anyway. How long it's going to last? Well, let's wait and see - how long before I get bored of having nothing to write/post about to no one in particular, I guess.

But, it's something to do.

Step 2 in learning how to blogspot...I've got pages!

Now I've managed to set out the page, time to learn how to manage the blog on the go. That means, time to find an app so it can be done while we are actually away.

Coming soon.... in preparation of our trip to Japan in November 2016

Time and excuse to set up a blog. Plus, I have my new camera!
Time to spend some time doing what I should be doing more of, things that I would like to do rather than, well, what I do do.

And a great way to do some of all that, start a blog. Ostensibly to provide a guide of what Japan had to offer to us on our trip, but also a way to indulge. If I have somewhere to show what I produce, then I've got an excuse to produce to show :-)

Outline of our trip:

Perth to Osaka
Osaka to Kyoto
Kyoto to Nagoya
Nagoya to Tokyo
Tokyo to Perth
